The Mary River helps define the beautiful rural area of Tiaro and provides opportunities for leisure activities such as canoeing, swimming, camping and rafting and fishing.
Art galleries, craft shops and historic hotels add to the charm of Tiaro, while its countryside is popular for dirt biking, four-wheel driving and bushwalking.
Sugar cane fields, diary and beef cattle, small crops and hectares of pine trees in state forest, are some of the area’s main rural industries.
Formerly known as Tiaro Shire, the local government area has been amalgamated into the Fraser Coast Regional Council and the Gympie Regional Council.
